BENEATH THE LAYERS
We spend years adding layers.
The person we should be.
The person others expect to meet.
The version of ourselves that fits the room, the relationship, the moment.
Eventually, some of those layers begin to feel permanent.
Beneath The Layers imagines what happens when they start to fall away.
The female figure appears almost embedded within the damaged surface, as though she has been there all along — not emerging as somebody new, but slowly becoming visible as everything covering her begins to loosen.
The peeling paint, exposed marks and rust are not about destruction. They carry the passage of time. Some things have simply been held in place long enough.
Created for those who have ever felt themselves changing, questioning old expectations or quietly returning to parts of themselves that became hidden along the way.
Perhaps finding ourselves is not always about becoming more.
Perhaps sometimes it is about allowing what no longer belongs to us to fall away.
Until, beneath all those accumulated layers,
we recognise the person who was there all along.

Layered surfaces, distressed textures, fragmented marks and the partially revealed figure are intentionally brought together to create the appearance of an aged, evolving surface.

Printed on Hahnemühle German Etching 310 gsm, a beautifully textured, heavyweight Fine Art paper chosen to complement the artwork’s tactile appearance, subtle tonal transitions and weathered detail.

A larger presentation allowing the distressed textures, fragmented marks, rust tones and partially revealed figure to become a stronger part of the finished artwork.
Each format is carefully composed for its individual proportions. Small differences in cropping, spacing or placement may therefore appear between sizes.
The visible cracks, peeling surfaces, rust, scratches, irregular marks and unfinished areas are intentional parts of the artwork and form part of its visual language.
