CAUGHT

She appears to have found herself in a web.

Or perhaps the web belongs to her.

It is difficult to tell.

Caught plays with that small uncertainty. The woman meets our gaze while delicate strands stretch between her hands, accompanied by one tiny spider who seems remarkably comfortable with the arrangement.

Perhaps she is untangling it.

Perhaps she is weaving it.

We’ll let you decide.

The composition moves between quiet realism and dissolution, with the carefully observed face and hands emerging from loose black painterly passages, fine graphite-inspired lines and generous warm-ivory space. The web itself becomes almost indistinguishable from the drawing around it, blurring the boundary between what is real and what may simply belong to her.

There is a touch of Halloween here, but nothing theatrical.

Just a woman, a spider, and a rather suspicious amount of web.
