Christmas, Well Played

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

CHRISTMAS, WELL PLAYED

There is something about Christmas that brings out the competitive spirit in people who, for the rest of the year, seem perfectly reasonable.

And we rather love that.

Christmas, Well Played celebrates one of the loveliest festive traditions — gathering around a table, bringing out the games and discovering that nobody is quite as relaxed about winning as they initially claimed.

Of course, the games themselves are only part of the pleasure.

What makes these occasions memorable is the company. The people who know exactly how to make us laugh, the familiar personalities around the table and that wonderful feeling of having nowhere else we particularly need to be.

Some families have traditions that have lasted for generations. Others make their own as they go along. And sometimes, the simplest evening becomes the one everyone remembers.

A weathered wooden table holds scattered playing cards, a few letter tiles, a handwritten score and a warming glass of mulled wine. A softly glowing Christmas tree rises in the background, while expressive painterly passages, graphite-inspired marks and generous warm-ivory space bring the festive scene and original poetry together.

There is a little nostalgia here, a little humour and a great deal of affection for those wonderfully imperfect gatherings.

Because years later, we rarely remember who actually won.

We remember who was there.

Who made us laugh.

And how much we enjoyed being together.

That, surely, is time well played.

PRODUCT DETAILS

A digital Fine Art Literary Keepsake by Surreal Mindscapes, created through a mixed-media-inspired approach combining original poetry, painterly Christmas imagery, graphite-inspired drawing, expressive texture and elegant handwritten typography within one carefully balanced composition.

Printed as a museum-quality Giclée Fine Art print on Hahnemühle German Etching 310 gsm — a beautifully textured, heavyweight archival paper chosen to complement the rich painterly details, delicate graphite-inspired marks, expressive surfaces and warm literary character of the artwork.

COLOURWAY

A warm, nostalgic festive palette of warm ivory, parchment, weathered cream, rich wood brown, muted evergreen, deep burgundy, charcoal and restrained antique-gold accents.

The wooden tabletop, vintage-inspired playing cards and richly coloured mulled wine provide the principal painterly focus, while softly glowing Christmas lights introduce warmth and atmosphere in the background.

Broad passages of apparent impasto, delicate graphite-inspired trajectories and generous negative space preserve the intimate, relaxed character of the composition.

AVAILABLE FORMATS

STUDIO — 21 × 30 cm

A smaller, intimate format with a clean-cut edge, without the deckled-edge effect. The poem, typography and imagery are carefully adjusted to preserve readability, balance and negative space.

SIGNATURE — 30 × 40 cm

The artwork at its intended scale, featuring the appearance of a traditional deckled (torn) paper edge, visually reproduced within the artwork itself.

The physical print is clean-cut to fit neatly into a standard 30 × 40 cm frame, while retaining the character of a softly torn, handmade paper edge within the printed composition.

Small differences in typography, spacing or placement may appear between formats, as each version is composed specifically for its proportions.

The visible paper texture, graphite-inspired marks, unfinished painterly passages and broad areas of apparent impasto are intentional parts of the artwork. The sculptural paint effects and subtle gold-toned details are reproduced within the printed image; the finished Giclée print itself remains flat.

PERSONALISATION

A name, Christmas year or short personal dedication may be added in a subtle handwritten style, thoughtfully placed to complement the original composition.

A thoughtful Christmas keepsake for family members, close friends, favourite Christmas hosts or anyone who appreciates a good game, a little friendly competition and the pleasure of spending time together.

Personalisation can be kept very simple, allowing the poem and its message to remain the focus.

Any personalised names or dedications shown in product images are examples of how the artwork can be customised.

UNFRAMED

The print is supplied unframed. Any frames or styled settings shown in product images are for presentation only.

Colours and subtle tonal details may vary slightly between your screen and the finished Fine Art print.
