I THOUGHT THAT WAS SIMPLY WHAT PARENTS DID
There is a point in adulthood when we begin to see our parents differently.
As children, we rarely question the things they do for us. They remember what we forget. They wait. They worry. They find another five minutes when there seems to be no time left.
We simply think: that is what parents do.
And then we grow up.
Perhaps we begin caring for someone else. Perhaps life simply becomes complicated enough for us to understand how much effort those ordinary acts must sometimes have taken.
Suddenly, we see not only Mum or Dad, but the person behind the role. Someone who must have been tired too. Someone with worries, responsibilities and a life beyond ours — who still found ways to put our needs before their own.
The personalised photograph sits within a simple portrait frame surrounded by weathered wood, warm-ivory paper, graphite-inspired marks and broad painterly passages, turning the poem into a thank-you meant for one particular person.
I Thought That Was Simply What Parents Did is about one of the quieter realisations of growing up:
some of the things we once thought were simply part of childhood were, in fact, acts of love.
And sometimes it takes becoming an adult to finally say—
thank you.
PRODUCT DETAILS
A personalised digital Fine Art Literary Keepsake by Surreal Mindscapes, created through a mixed-media-inspired approach combining your own photograph, original poetry, painterly imagery, graphite-inspired drawing, expressive texture and restrained typography within one carefully balanced composition.
Printed as a museum-quality Giclée Fine Art print on Hahnemühle German Etching 310 gsm — a beautifully textured, heavyweight archival paper chosen to complement the warmth of the personal photograph, expressive painterly passages and delicate graphite-inspired detail.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPH
A personal photograph is required for this artwork.
Please provide one photograph featuring the parent you would like this keepsake to celebrate. This may be a photograph of you together, as shown in the example artwork, or another meaningful photograph that reflects your relationship.
Your photograph will be incorporated into the portrait frame within the composition and carefully balanced with the surrounding artwork.
A clear, good-quality photograph will usually give the best result, although older family photographs are also welcome where image quality allows.
Please ensure that the photograph is your own or that you have permission to use it.
COLOURWAY
A warm, understated palette of ivory, parchment, weathered stone, soft taupe, natural brown, charcoal and muted antique gold.
The restrained neutral tones allow the personal photograph to remain the emotional centre of the composition while complementing the warmth and reflective character of the poem.
AVAILABLE FORMATS
STUDIO — 21 × 30 cm
A smaller, intimate format, with the composition and typography carefully adjusted to suit its proportions while preserving the relationship between photograph, poem and painterly elements.
SIGNATURE — 30 × 40 cm
The artwork at its intended scale. The appearance of a traditional deckled (torn) paper edge is visually reproduced within the artwork itself, while the physical print is clean-cut to fit neatly into a standard 30 × 40 cm frame.
Small differences in typography, spacing or placement may appear between formats, as each version is composed specifically for its proportions.
The visible paper texture, graphite-inspired marks, unfinished painterly passages and broad areas of apparent impasto are intentional parts of the artwork. The sculptural paint effects and tactile-looking surfaces are reproduced within the printed image; the finished Giclée print itself remains flat.
PERSONALISATION
In addition to your photograph, a name, date or short dedication may be added in a subtle handwritten style, thoughtfully placed to complement the original composition.
Personalisation can be kept very simple, allowing the photograph, poem and meaning behind the piece to remain the focus.
UNFRAMED
The print is supplied unframed. The portrait frame shown within the artwork forms part of the composition itself. Any additional frames or styled settings shown in product images are for presentation only.
Colours and subtle tonal details may vary slightly between your screen and the finished Fine Art print.
