ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
THERE IS A TIME OF YEAR
Apparently, witches in the 1960s were rather fabulous too.
At least, this one appears to have somewhere to be.
Lipstick nearly finished, hat firmly in place and an impossibly large pumpkin behind her, she looks less like someone preparing a potion and more like someone preparing for a very good night out.
Perhaps she is meeting friends. Perhaps she has tickets for Chicago. Perhaps the pumpkin is transportation.
We really don't know.
And that is rather the point.
There Is a Time of Year plays with the slightly stranger side of autumn — that brief season when darker evenings, theatrical clothes and a little harmless eccentricity suddenly feel entirely reasonable.
The composition carries a hint of mid-century glamour through the woman's styling, while burnt orange, terracotta, deep black and antique-gold painterly passages meet loose graphite-inspired marks and warm-ivory paper. The enormous pumpkin pushes the scene gently into the surreal without explaining quite how she ended up there.
The poem leaves her story equally unresolved.
She appears with autumn, entirely herself, and disappears again when the season moves on.
Where she is going dressed like that is anyone's guess.
But it does look as though the night has potential.
PRODUCT DETAILS
A digital Fine Art Literary Keepsake by Surreal Mindscapes, created through a mixed-media-inspired approach combining original poetry, painterly imagery, graphite-inspired drawing, expressive texture and restrained typography within one carefully balanced composition.
Printed as a museum-quality Giclée Fine Art print on Hahnemühle German Etching 310 gsm — a beautifully textured, heavyweight archival paper chosen to complement the rich autumn palette, graphite-inspired detail and expressive painterly passages.
COLOURWAY
A rich but restrained autumn palette of warm ivory, burnt orange, terracotta, ochre, charcoal, deep black and muted antique gold.
The warmth and sculptural-looking texture of the oversized pumpkin are balanced by generous areas of pale paper and loose graphite-inspired marks, while the dark clothing and small touch of lipstick bring contrast and a hint of mid-century glamour.
AVAILABLE FORMATS
STUDIO — 21 × 30 cm
A smaller, intimate format, with the composition and typography carefully adjusted to suit its proportions while preserving the relationship between poem and artwork.
SIGNATURE — 30 × 40 cm
The artwork at its intended scale. The appearance of a traditional deckled (torn) paper edge is visually reproduced within the artwork itself, while the physical print is clean-cut to fit neatly into a standard 30 × 40 cm frame.
Small differences in typography, spacing or placement may appear between formats, as each version is composed specifically for its proportions.
The visible paper texture, graphite-inspired marks, unfinished painterly passages and broad areas of apparent impasto are intentional parts of the artwork. The sculptural paint effects and subtle gold details are reproduced within the printed image; the finished Giclée print itself remains flat.
PERSONALISATION
A name, date or short dedication may be added in a subtle handwritten style, thoughtfully placed to complement the original composition.
Personalisation can be kept very simple, allowing the artwork and poem to remain the focus.
UNFRAMED
The print is supplied unframed. Any frames or styled settings shown in product images are for presentation only.
Colours and subtle tonal details may vary slightly between your screen and the finished Fine Art print.
