WEARING AUTUMN

There is something beautiful about a tree when autumn has stopped being gentle with it.

The rain has darkened the bark. The wind has already taken some of the leaves, and the ones that remain seem to glow a little more brightly because there are fewer of them.

And still, the tree stands there — not resisting the season, but wearing it.

There is almost something proud about it. Autumn has settled into its branches, gathered around its roots and coloured the pavement beneath it, while the occasional leaf lets go and drifts quietly away.

Wearing Autumn is a celebration of the less obvious beauty of the season — not only the spectacular trees at their brightest, but the quieter days afterwards, when rain arrives, branches begin to show and the landscape slowly changes shape.
