ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
ALL THE TIME BETWEEN
As children, we rarely think about time.
There always seems to be more of it.
Another summer.
Another birthday.
Another year waiting somewhere ahead.
We reach towards life without wondering how much of it has already passed through our hands.
All The Time Between places childhood and later life within the same hourglass, connected by the quiet fall of sand between them.
Above, a child touches it almost absent-mindedly.
Below, an older woman reaches towards the same falling grains.
The distance between them looks impossibly small.
And yet it contains a lifetime.
The image is not intended as a warning about growing older. There is tenderness in it too — a reminder that every ordinary day, every person we love, every insignificant afternoon and every moment we assume will come again eventually becomes part of all the time between.
Perhaps that is why we understand time differently as we grow older.
Not because it suddenly moves faster.
But because we finally understand what it carries with it.
And somewhere between the child who believed there would always be more…
and the person who now knows better,
a whole life happened.
