Before We Touched
ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
BEFORE WE TOUCHED
Some beginnings are almost impossible to see.
A glance held for slightly too long.
A hand extended.
A moment in which neither person quite knows what will happen next.
Before We Touched captures that suspended instant just before connection becomes real.
The two figures move towards one another, yet the most important part of the composition is the small space that still remains between their hands.
Nothing has happened yet.
And somehow, everything has.
The man remains more firmly rooted in graphite, while the woman seems to gather colour, texture and movement around her as she approaches. Their different visual languages begin to meet in the same way they do — gradually, tentatively, without either one disappearing into the other.
There is romance here, but not certainty.
It is the fragile stage before a relationship has a name, when attraction is still possibility and a single gesture can feel larger than anything that follows.
Before We Touched is the first work in The Togetherness Triptych, following a relationship through three connected moments. Each artwork has been created to form part of the wider visual story while remaining a complete Fine Art piece in its own right, allowing it to be displayed individually or as part of the full triptych.
Created for those who remember the extraordinary tension of almost touching someone for the first time — when closeness is still new enough to feel slightly unreal.
Because sometimes the beginning of a story is not the first kiss.
Sometimes it is simply the moment when two people reach towards one another —
and neither pulls away.
PRODUCT DETAILS
A digital artwork by Surreal Mindscapes, created in a Painterly style inspired by expressive graphite drawing and sculptural impasto painting, and produced as a museum-quality Giclée Fine Art print.
This artwork forms Part One of The Togetherness Triptych. Each work is available separately and has been composed to stand beautifully on its own, while the complete set creates a connected visual narrative when displayed together.
Expressive graphite-inspired marks, generous negative space and broad painterly passages are intentionally fused throughout the composition. The female figure moves into larger areas of visually sculptural paint while the male figure remains more strongly connected to loose graphite, allowing the space between them to become part of the artwork itself.
The physical artwork is a flat Fine Art print. The visible raised paint, broken edges and impasto-like surfaces are part of the digital composition rather than physically applied paint.
Printed on Hahnemühle German Etching 310 gsm, a beautifully textured, heavyweight Fine Art paper chosen to complement the artwork’s graphite character, restrained palette and visually tactile painterly detail.
COLOURWAY
Warm ivory · graphite black · weathered charcoal · muted blue-grey · soft stone · raw umber · subtle ochre gold
AVAILABLE FORMATS
STUDIO — 21 × 30 cm
SIGNATURE — 30 × 40 cm
Each format is carefully composed for its individual proportions. Small differences in cropping, spacing or placement may therefore appear between sizes.
The broad impasto-like passages, visibly broken paint edges, irregular graphite-inspired lines, splashes and softly unfinished areas are intentional parts of the artwork. Texture is deliberately concentrated rather than applied evenly across the composition, while faces and skin remain visually calmer and smoother.
UNFRAMED
The artwork is supplied unframed. Any frames or styled interior settings shown in presentation images are for display purposes only.
Colours, contrast and fine tonal details may vary slightly between screen display and the finished Fine Art print.
Designed and created by Surreal Mindscapes.
