Sometimes we look perfectly composed.
We answer the question. We continue the conversation. We do what needs to be done. From the outside, there may be very little to suggest that anything is happening at all.
And somewhere behind that composure, another part of us is screaming.
Composed captures the distance that can exist between what we show and what we carry.
The woman in the foreground appears quiet and controlled, her expression almost serene. Behind her, another version of the same presence breaks through in raw graphite — head lifted, restraint gone, emotion finally allowed to exist without being made presentable.
Neither is more truthful than the other.
The calm is real.
So is the scream.
A broken circle of gold surrounds them both, holding these apparently contradictory states within the same space. Not two different people, but two experiences capable of existing within one person at exactly the same time.
Created for those who recognise the complicated strength of carrying on — and who understand that appearing composed does not always mean feeling peaceful.
Because sometimes composure is not the absence of chaos.
It is simply the part of us standing in front of it.
