ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
HOME ISN’T WHERE THE KEY FITS
Home Isn’t Where The Key Fits explores the almost imperceptible moment when a place stops being somewhere we live and begins to feel like ours.
Rather than defining home through walls, possessions or an address, the piece looks at belonging as something that develops quietly. It is found in familiarity, in routines we no longer notice, and in the freedom to exist within a space without having to think about how we occupy it.
At the heart of the poem is the difference between arriving somewhere and belonging there. There is rarely a single moment when one becomes the other. Instead, home seems to form gradually around us until one day we realise we are no longer settling in, adapting or imagining somewhere else.
The visual composition reflects that stillness. Generous warm-ivory negative space surrounds the typography, with only delicate graphite marks, faint tonal variation and the tactile character of aged paper interrupting the surface. Nothing competes with the words; the restraint itself becomes part of the feeling of being settled and at ease.
Part of the Words to Keep collection, Home Isn’t Where the Key Fits is a quiet celebration of belonging — not to a building, but to the life that has gradually taken shape inside it.
A meaningful keepsake for a new home, first home, moving-in anniversary, housewarming, wedding or new chapter together — particularly for someone who has finally found the place where they can simply be.
PRODUCT DETAILS
A digital Fine Art Poetry Print by Surreal Mindscapes, created for the Words to Keep collection — a series centred on words, memories and the quiet experiences that become part of who we are.
Created through a mixed-media-inspired approach combining original poetry, refined typography, subtle graphite-inspired detail and softly tactile surface texture within one restrained Fine Art composition.
Printed as a museum-quality Giclée Fine Art print on Hahnemühle German Etching 310 gsm — a beautifully textured, heavyweight archival paper chosen to complement the softness of the typography and the understated character of the artwork.
COLOURWAY
This piece is created in a soft, understated palette of warm ivory, natural parchment, pale stone, soft taupe and delicate graphite grey.
The restrained neutral colourway allows the words and negative space to remain central, while subtle tonal variation and gently weathered surface detail give the piece warmth and the quiet character of something that already feels familiar.
AVAILABLE FORMATS
STUDIO — 21 × 30 cm
A smaller, intimate format with a clean-cut edge. The typography and spacing are carefully adjusted to preserve the calm balance and readability of the original composition.
SIGNATURE — 30 × 40 cm
The artwork at its intended scale. The appearance of a traditional deckled (torn) paper edge is visually reproduced within the artwork itself, while the physical print is clean-cut to fit neatly into a standard 30 × 40 cm frame.
Small differences in typography, spacing or placement may appear between formats, as each version is composed specifically for its proportions.
The visible paper texture, softly irregular edges, graphite detail and subtle tonal variations are intentional parts of the artwork.
PERSONALISATION
A name, date or short dedication may be added in a subtle handwritten style, thoughtfully placed to complement the original composition.
