No one is here anymore.
And yet the place does not feel empty.
The Fire Was Still Warm captures that peculiar moment after people have gone, when their presence seems to remain in everything they leave behind.
The stones still form a circle. A final ember glows at its centre. The mountains have returned to silence, but it is easy to imagine what filled that silence only a short while before.
Conversation.
Laughter.
Someone singing.
Stories becoming longer as the evening grew darker.
Perhaps a mug passed from one pair of hands to another, somebody moving closer to the fire, somebody else insisting they were absolutely not cold.
Nothing extraordinary needed to happen here.
And perhaps that is the point.
Some of the moments in which we experience life most fully are remarkably ordinary while we are living them. We rarely recognise them as memories until everyone has stood up, the voices have disappeared and only the warmth they created remains.
